HET HUIS VAN BOURGONDIE WILL CLOSE ITS DOORS END OF 2012
Mid 2011 the ministry of Education, Culture & Science announced major cuts in the cultural field as of 2013. All theatre production houses would have to close down. This would hurt young theatre makers especially.
Huis van Bourgondië decided to develop a new plan 2013-16 , based on financial support from the province of Limburg, the municipality of Maastricht and cultural partners. Crucial in this plan was the variety of coproductions with numerous theatre companies, venues and theatre festivals in Limburg and the Euregion. It would secure a working space and professional support for young artists at the brink of their career.
In the past year, reinventing Huis van Bourgondië took a lot of time and discussion. Because of the initial support from partners, province and the municipality of Maastricht, it seemed that the solution was close at hand. Unfortunately the deliberation took too long. Huis van Bourgondië is now forced to end its business as of December 31st.
We will not leave silently thought. On the contrary: in the coming months there are still some great (language no problem) activities planned. It will give us the opportunity to support our young talented theatre makers with great enthusiasm: Nick Steur, Collectief Kamp Kalf, Janne Desmet, Ilay den Boer, Sadettin Kirmiziyuz, Vincent van der Valk, Maarten Westra Hoekzema, Annechien de Vocht, Joeri Dubbe, Gert-Jan Stam and FC Berman. And we hope that you will come to watch the results!
At the end of December we will organize a special event to end our 23-year existence as a home for theatre talents and performance. Check our website for more information.

The Netherlands present a considerable number of production houses. Places where, often young, theatre makers/directors can develop themselves artistically. Production houses provide a safe place for this development, and are primarily for production, technical, financial and artistic support.
Every year Het Huis van Bourgondië presents a new generation of talented theatre directors. Not only graduates from the Theatre Academy in Maastricht and other young Dutch talented directors, but also with interesting theatre makers from abroad. This to accommodate young and ambitious makers all over Europe and to create a comfortable and professional working environment.
We are located in Maastricht, a city in the most southern part of The Netherlands. The fact that we are situated so close to the borders of Belgium and Germany opens opportunities to different ways of cooperation with our neighbouring countries and with other countries. An example of a powerful cooperation is the successful annual festival CEMENT. This festival is both national and international orientated.
From September 2012 onwards we will use different locations in Maastricht as well. These locations are AINSI and the theatre of Toneelgroep Maastricht.
Theatre projects of Het Huis van Bourgondië are research projects: it provides the theatre maker with time for development and reflection toward his or her position in the world. Our own theatre and rehearsal studios, located in the city centre of Maastricht, are multi functional, cosy and capable of facilitating a wide range of ideas. In some cases directors even look for ways to express themselves outside the constrictions of the theatre.
In short Het Huis van Bourgondië is an inspiring place where fellow-thinkers meet and grow within a professional organisation. The audience is more than welcome to watch a new generation of theatre makers explore, reflect and create in Het Huis van Bourgondië.
To facilitate this Het Huis van Bourgondië is subsidised by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Science, by the Province of Limburg and the City of Maastricht.
